Here are research-based practices, to leverage the power and accessibility of breathing to develop teacher and student self-awareness and self-regulation in the classroom and beyond. As adults, our responses to stress and adversity are instructive to the children and young adults under our guidance and in our care. Through the development of healthy and sustainable stress-management skills, like mindful breathing, we can turn stress into strength and build resilience in ourselves, our families, and our communities. Dr. Matt Dewar has served as a coach, educator, and well-being coordinator at Lake Forest High School (IL), introducing students, athletes, and colleagues to research-based mindfulness and self-care practices through his powerful workshops.
