At the Monday, October 30th meeting, Superintendent Gordon presented the Long Range Plan (LRP). Council Members then participated in a sorting activity to determine how PTA programs align with the LRP strategies. D41 PTAs are incredibly active with nearly 180 programs across 5 schools. PTAs demonstrated a strong commitment to Academic Enrichment programs evenly distributed across Arts, Literacy, STEM, Health & Social Emotional Learning. Other areas of strength included Communication & Engagement and Culture & Climate.
Members identified many opportunities to explore at future meetings, such as how to further engage family subgroups, strengthen academic programs to close the achievement gap, encourage parent participation in District surveys, and communicate local legislative issues impacting education.
At the next Council meeting, members will explore and discuss how financial and volunteer resources are used to support the programs. They will also review how PTAs can spend their funds for the most impact in terms of the number of students reached or program effectiveness.
