PTA Council Meeting Summary – 3/19/2018

At the Monday, March 19th meeting, Council members discussed the Hadley Jr. High sound system and construction with Principal Steve Diveley and Director of Buildings and Grounds, Dave Scaramado. Dively welcomes all elementary PTAs to use the Hadley theatre and understands there is a growing use of lapel mics that requires an augmented solution. The current setup has prioritized ease of use and is optimized for talent shows and group performances. To accommodate lapel mics, the simple ‘black box’ solution will be moved from backstage to the audience area, so lapel mic sound levels can be controlled from a more optimal location. This will be done in two years, as part of the Hadley construction projects. In the meantime, Diveley is exploring options for PTA to pay for a staff member to control the current soundboard setup for performances, clarifying protocols, and updating the reservation verbiage to add detail.

Dr. Gordon celebrated the Hadley Jr. High theatre production of Grease and the incredible talent of our students and volunteerism of parents and Glenbard West students. He encouraged everyone to attend the Special Education Strategic Planning Committee Listening session (3/21), where an update would be given on their progress and attendees would have a chance to interact and ask questions. The Board of Education continued their Legacy Workshop discussions, providing additional focus for the administration.  They are exploring options for moving Early Childhood classrooms out of Forest Glen to free up space for increased enrollment. They also discussed the expansion of extended day Kindergarten for our most at-risk students.

PTA Council will host a Board of Education Candidate Information Session on Wednesday, May 2nd at 7pm in the Hadley LMC. The purpose of the event is for past board members to share their experiences, and for potential candidates to learn about what it takes to run for a board position.

The Council will meet again on Monday, April 30th.
