The Myth of Normal: Understanding Anxiety, Depression and Addiction, noon at Marquardt Administrative Center
There is no doubt that mental illness must be destigmatized and treated no different than physical illness. Thus, just like physical symptoms of pain, weakness, or dysfunction must be evaluated for root cause, so too must mental health symptoms of anxiety, depression, and addiction. However, even more than our physical body, our brain and mind are exquisitely “neuroplastic” and ever-changing. This leads us to wonder what is normal and what isn’t? In this fascinating talk, Dr Shimi Kang will distill down to the basics of how our brain’s work. She will specifally look at symptoms of anxiety, depression, and addiction as “signals” to make greater change and provide powerful, evidence-based communication and lifestyle “prescriptions” for health, happiness, and resilience.
